ok let me start by saying this is a christmas gift for me so i got the bundle with psp and game and decals so im super excited. i love all the kingdom hearts game . honestly the only reason i own ps2, ds, gameboy, and psp. given that no i have not played it yet due to it being a gift and have to wait for it however i did watch the opening credits scene to make sure everything worked OK. the graphics were amazing just for the opening plus the remix of simple and clean went so perfect with it.
as for the 1 rating your really a jerk ive seen your other reviews you just vote 1-2 stars for everything
honestly i like these charachters and i know already that all the charachters somehow come together. so if you honestly didnt like it OK but dont just go around ruining games reputations
i cant wait to play it ive heared that it will be hard so idk what level ill play idk if ill be good enough to see secret ending.
kingdom hearts is my faverite game actuly only game i like so i see no proplems with it. any true disney fan should love it

Alan Wake is a shining example of storytelling in a video game. I must admit i knew very little of this game until I played it. The basic premise is Alan Wake is an Author who goes on a vacation with his wife to the small town of Bright Falls. Unbeknown to Alan his wife was hoping to rid him of his writers block as he hadn't written a hit novel in 3 years. Immediately the game falls into a dark and twisted world of reality, anguish, confusion, a bit of comedy and a lot of thrills. The game is played in an almost episodic way which is good if you only have time for an hour or two to play as the game catches you up with a Previously on Alan Wake..... Now, I had never heard of the show Twin Peaks before Alan Wake, and I never thought that a game could make me appreciate a show(or is it the other way around) as much as this did. As soon as I finished the game I watched Twin Peaks. The similarities of the two are there but they are subtle and somewhat intelligently placed. I will say the biggest selling point initially for me was the atmosphere. This game carries it in spades. Everything about the graphics will draw you in, The lighting, shadows, the vistas, rivers, mountains, it's amazing. Riding the boat into Bright Falls is both a visual and audible treat. I immediately noticed the music as exceptionally standout. Now as much as i've gushed over this game it is not without it's faults. I will tell you that the combat in this game is a lot of fun. It seems perfectly in tune and tight. Well, the enemy variety is lacking. As in 6 or so different character models, some stronger/faster than others...oh and birds. There are possessed objects in the game but there more annoying and rarer to come across than the main enemies. I was surprised that there weren't any wildlife. As in none. Some chapters are longer than others(lookin' at you chpt. 3) but overall this a finely paced and tight game. The ending of this game left me satisfied and wonderfully perplexed. It is quite fun to go online after playing this game and checking others thoughts and theories of the ending. I will say right now, do not go online and read about Alan Wake at all. Don't spoil this deliciously crafted tale of madness and love.

In the title I figured I would give a little background on myself. Considering all those factors I am surprised that this game is one of my all time favorites. It is my second favorite game this generation besides Uncharted 2. I am not an RPG fan in general and it seems like I favor PS3 games over xbox exclusives as I have both systems.

I bought a 360 about 8 months ago and have been disappointed by the Xbox exclusives I had played up until now. I really did not think Gears of War or Alan Wake or Splinter Cell Conviction have lived up to the hype, I was starting to regret my purchase until I played this game. It is seriously worth buying a 360 to play. I am a sucker for great stories, and the story in this game is one of the best if not the best I have ever played. The characters and voice acting are 2nd to none. The characters have tons of backstory and are very likable. This game is a perfect mix of action and story. The shooting portion of gameplay is satisfying and missions are well varied and deep. I really can't say enough great things about this game.

Being able to make what seems like an endless number of choices about how you play the game is great. Being able to have a female or male Sheppard and being able to change their face is just one of the standout options. I think I loved this game and Heavy Rain for a lot of the same reasons. The gameplay in the two games is completely different but the main core of what I liked about them is the same. They both have great characters and an excellent story. I think the biggest reason though is the possibility of a character dying and the game going on without them, this only works if you care about the characters and with Mass Effect 2 I wanted to make it to the end with everybody alive. Also, being able to romance certain characters was a great addition to the game and pretty comical at some points. Knowing that choices I make in this game will affect the upcoming part three also causes the player to be more conscious of the decisions they are making.

I plan on completing all the side missions now that I have completed the main story arc and have purchased the DLC which have also be released. The Kasumi DLC was short but she is a good character as well, a worthy addition to the crew. I have purchased the recently released Overlord DLC but have not played through it yet. I plan on fully completing every aspect of this game. If you have a 360 you def need to buy this game. If not consider getting a 360 cause this game is great.

Story
Two years after Commander Shepard repelled invading Reapers bent on the destruction of organic life, a mysterious new enemy has emerged. Gameplay
An space-based action RPG like its predecessor, gameplay in Mass Effect 2 revolves around the player's particular version of Commander Shepard and continuing development of this character as the game proceeds. As the game opens a variety of character classes are made available to the player, with talents, both exclusive and general, associated with each. With experience these talents are leveled up, resulting in the unlocking of related abilities and/or entirely new talents. The player has the ability to customize their Commander Shepard in a number of ways including physical appearance, gender, and certain aspects of their personal history, with the rub being that these choices can influence things like available missions, dialogue choices with non-player characters (NPCs), and character background.

Accompanying this main character are a number of preset supporting characters that the player can direct and develop relationships with, which again, will alter the outcome of the story. All the characters from the original game make an appearance in Mass Effect 2, but the immediate characters surrounding Commander Shepard are new. Additional new features that players can expect to experience include new alien races, a more realistic damage system, a new heavy weapons system allowing for maximum damage, a regenerative health system, a dramatic increase in the number of character animations available to Shepard, and updates to the dialogue mechanic used when conversing with NPCs.

Integration with the Original Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2 allows players of the original Mass Effect game to import save games to continue the story of their own Commander Shepard. In doing this, the decisions that were made in the first game will affect the events of the second game. In addition, characters from the first game will return as long as they were not killed off by the player in the first game. On the other hand, new players coming to the series for the first time in Mass Effect 2 will start a brand-new character, discover the events of the previous games a they progress and embark on a thrilling stand-alone adventure that does not require the previous game for play.

The SMR series has been running for well over 8 years now and its been rehashed so much that its starting to get monotonous and I do mean very monotonous while the graphics keep getting revamped. All the modes as well as the game play is still pretty much similar to all the other wrestling games out there today.

With the SMR series crossing over all the consoles such as the nintendo Wii as well as the PS3 there is a general consensus among all gamers that the series has pretty much died out from all the spin offs and other games out there today you cant really put a wrestling game in the market and expect it to do much business.

While most of the rooster keeps getting updated and the manger mood as well the game itself has been revamped and rehashed so many times that its just down right sickening now.

With the likes of Tekken 6 and Soul Caliber entering the Fray of Xbox 360 Fighting games its highly doubtful that games like the Smack Down Vs Raw series are going to do be doing much business for the companies that produce them in the first place, the other thing you need to keep in mind is that beat-em-ups are not much in demand these days, with the advent of such game series as the Halo series as well as the Final Fantasy CC versions of the game coming out the SMR series is slowly dying out.While some of the mechanics of the game look a little polished most of the game is the same old beat-em-up mix where you grab the other guy throw him out of the ring and beat the living daylights out of him till you can get the three count. The story line is the same the customization options however have been updated a lot and you get to design your own Pyro's as well as the entrance.At the end of the day it's about time Yukes and Jacks Pacific hang up their hats on the SMR series.

I've had this Final Fantasy XIII bundle for over two months now, and I can safely say that I'm happy with my purchase. I do have a little bit of buyer remorse due to the Xbox 360 Slim being released right after this, but that's a different story.

I'm not going to review the game as I feel that has nothing to do with the Xbox 360 and its performance.

I bought this edition to replace my old Resident Evil 5 Elite Edition that I bought early last year. I simply needed more hard drive space, and this edition, with its 250 GB hard drive, was the best I could do. I have played games and Netflix through this machine on a daily basis for the past two months, and I have experienced no problems whatsoever. It does seem a little quieter than the Resident Evil 5 edition that I had, and the power brick is definitely smaller than the RE5 edition. The fact that there is still a power brick at all is a bit of a head scratcher, but what can you do. All of my games I've played on this thing have performed perfectly, loaded quickly, and have given me no headaches. However, it is essential that you install your games before you play them as it will sound like a Cessna plane is ready to take off inside your Xbox. After nearly five years of so-called "improvements" to the 360 it's still amazing that these are so friggin' loud! However, once you install the game the 360 is very quiet. This Final Fantasy XIII edition doesn't run as hot as my old RE5 edition, either. The RE5 Elite edition felt like it was on fire, even AFTER installing a game, but this edition is nice and cool, never seeming to go above a reasonable temperature. I have also learned to appreciate Xbox Live and its services. I never used to like being charged for Live, but it really is a premier service, and compared to the Playstation Network, which is free, it's fantastic. You can watch news, download exclusive games, and the Xbox interface is fun to navigate, unlike the PSN.

All in all, this FF XIII Elite Edition is probably the best you can do if you want to buy the Xbox 360 in its original form.

My gripes about this machine are still the same as always: no integrated wi-fi, you can't use a third party hard drive as memory, no USB hookup/charger for the controllers. I can't help but be a little miffed about the new Xbox 360 Slim model coming out so soon after this edition was released. Microsoft is now touting integrated wi-fi and third party hard drive upgrades with the new Slim, and they are congratulating themselves about things that should have always been included with the 360 anyway. Microsoft simply rested on their laurels for the past five years, and they have only changed their tune because now the PS3 is catching up to them in sales, and they realize that integrated wi-fi and third party hard drive swaps are pretty much essential if they want to stay in the console race. A business decision? Sure. But it irks me that Microsoft could have made these improvements all along if they wanted to, instead choosing to nickel and dime consumers with sub-par products like wi-fi adapters, controller chargers, cooling fans, and insanely overpriced Xbox hard drives. It's business decisions like this that will always make me buy PS3 over the 360 version when a game comes out for both consoles. Another thing that got under my skin is the fact the box tells you that 250 gigs of memory comes with the machine, but in reality, you'll only be able to use around 230 gigs. The Xbox 360 uses over 20 gigs of space right out of the box with all the things necessary to have the "full Xbox experience" including Xbox Live, interfaces, and game trials, among other things. You can always go and delete some of the unwanted things, like game trials, but most of the stuff that takes up the memory will need to stay. Why can't companies put a 270 GB hard drive in there if they know all of the necessary software will take up 20 gigs of space? Xbox isn't the only company who does this; my 160 GB PS3 had 149 gigs available right out of the box. I feel it's a misrepresentation of a product, and companies should AT LEAST mention this hard drive size discrepancy on the outside of the box. You'd be able to fit three large games on a 20 GB hard drive (to give you an idea, Mass Effect takes up nearly 7 gigs), so that space counts!

These past few days have been showing Microsoft at E3 claiming the Xbox 360 Slim as "the Xbox we've all been asking for". Sooo, that means any 360 that isn't a Slim is not what we've been asking for? This kind of advertising really bugs me. It's almost as if Microsoft is flat out saying "yeah, our old model sucks, but NOW it's awesome!" F You, Microsoft.

However, games like Mass Effect, and Gears Of War can only be played on the 360 which makes it a must purchase. That's the price of being a gamer, I guess: you're willing to get ripped off a little bit in order to satiate your hobby.

The game is a mixture or puzzles, platforming, and third-person shooting. Every single element of the game is good, but some parts are lacking.

For example, the third person shooting aspect of the game is near-flawless. My biggest gripe has to do with how the roll button is the same as the "get into cover button". You roll when you want to get in cover, and you get into cover when you want to roll. Most of the time it works well, but then there's that ONE time that it doesn't and really makes you frustrated. Some enemies are a little over-powered in the armor department. The black helmeted ones can take two rocket launchers to the face and not die when it doesn't make sense that they would, not to mention that they will only go down for melee kills if their helmets are off.

The platforming is sub-par and boring. All it is is a bunch of climbing ledges. With most platforming games, there are all sorts of mechanics to keep things interesting. With Prince of Persia you have wall running, ledge grabbing, wall jumping, time rewinding, and mechanical puzzles. That's not at all an exhaustive list either. With Uncharted, there are some poles you can jump to, and some ledges to grab and jump from one to the other, but the variety is missing. It really seems to me like the platforming is just a means to an end. These sections are not fun in the least. The puzzles are just your notebook blatantly telling you what to do and don't require any thinking at all.

What makes Uncharted unique is how it combines platforming AND third-person shooting. The number of animations in the game is absolutely insane. The stealth is well implemented, and it is fun to take out a bunch of guys before you get in on the fight. Combine all three and the variations of taking a guy out makes the gameplay very varied and very satisfying. The platforming may be severely lacking but once you combine it with the stealth and shooting something truly unique emerges. It's just when the game sticks to platforming and only platforming that the game really grates.

Seeing this platformer/shooter gameplay mix adds a whole new depth of strategy to the multiplayer mode where the opponents are a lot tougher and smarter than the single-player mode. Unfortunately, the one thing about the multiplayer mode that I have to criticize is the Coop Objective mode. There are only three maps you can choose, and relying on random people is a pain in the ass. For one, you will almost always only get to play with people on the lower difficulties. As someone who has beat the single-player mode several times on all difficulties and gotten the platinum trophy, I only like to play on hard. Finding a group to play on hard is difficult, very difficult, you might have to play on easier difficulties a lot before you find a group who is even willing let alone able to do hard mode.

The moving set pieces are cool on paper I suppose, but when you first get down into those sequences it can get annoying. The physics can be your enemy and you'll get killed out of nowhere for no discernible reason.

The graphics? Gorgeous. I remember going through my first playthrough and thinking to myself "graphics will only ever need to be this good". I honestly don't see a point in having graphics look any better. Simply breath-taking.

Story

Vampire Wars is a free massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game hosted on Facebook. You get to assume the form of a powerful vampire as you increase your power while you slowly take control of the neighborhood, as well as battle other vampires!

Vampire Wars is from Zynga, the developer of some of the most popular games on Facebook, including FarmVille and Mafia Wars. It uses the turn-based gameplay style that is very popular among Facebook games such as Mafia Wars and Castle Age. The core concept is that game turns are taken depending on how much Energy and Rage you have available. These 2 stats control the actions you take in the game, and both of them slowly fill up with time. These stats can also be accumulated, so that a player who plays all the time will not have an advantage over someone who only logs on once a day. This is a brilliant concept that levels the playing field and allows both hardcore and casual players to enjoy the game.

There has been a lot of interest in vampires lately, from the TV series True Blood to the recent blockbusters Twilight and New Moon. With all the hype and interest in the genre, it's not surprising that Zynga's game about these mysterious gothic creatures is growing exponentially.

You start the game by choosing an avatar for yourself. You are able to choose a bonus that will help you throughout the game, and you can customize the look of your vampire. Your avatar's clothes and accessories can be upgraded as you progress through the game.

The purpose of the game is essentially to become the most powerful vampire in the area, learning the most powerful abilities and taking control of the most number of minions. You do this in two ways, either by taking part in missions or by fighting other vampires. Both missions and combat will provide you with the experience required to gain levels and become more powerful.

Missions involve you going on a journey to discover your abilities as a vampire. To complete each mission, you will need to spend energy, with later missions requiring more energy than the earlier ones. In addition, each mission will require you to have learnt certain vampiric abilities before you are able to attempt it.

Combat with other vampires involves you fighting other players. Your rage stat determines how often you are able to initiate combat, while your health stat determines how much damage you can take. Combat isn't just a duel between two vampires though; it is actually a battle between the vampires' clans. So the more people you have in your clan or army, the more powerful you become and the better you are at combat.

You will need to learn various abilities in order to meet the requirements of the missions you attempt, and also to become more powerful at combat. There are three types of abilities: offensive, defensive and movement. These abilities range from standard vampire fare such as fangs and flight, to the more obscure and interesting ones such as immunity to garlic and the ability to summon a succubus!

The standard abilities can be bought from vendors, which simply requires the standard vampiric currency of blood. Other abilities can be obtained as rare drops from missions, by praying to the elders, by logging onto the game on a daily basis, and even by gambling with a treasure chest! Quirky abilities are also available on special occasions such as Halloween, and powerful abilities feature in a weekly sale at the bazaar.

Blood is what makes the vampiric world go round, and you get it via dominating the hapless humans around you. From the park jogger to the diner waitress and even the high school football team! Keep your minions happy and they'll keep the blood coming. And you will need lots of blood too to pay for and maintain your most powerful abilities.

There are also many little bits in the game that make Vampire Wars a very engaging game that will tempt you to log in all the time to immerse yourself in its vampiric and gothic splendor (especially the treasure chest that lets you gamble on powerful abilities everyday). Form a vampire clan with your best friends and wage war against other bloodsuckers trespassing on your turf. The world of vampires is there ready for you to take control and make your own.

PS3 VS XBOX 360 - Exclusive Games for 2008!

The reign of the Xbox is almost over. As of late the PS3 has been looking better and better. Looks like 2008 will be the year of the PlayStation. PlayStation 3 has many big name titles coming out this year and if the all games from the list are all actually released this year, all we can say is WOW. Note: The following list in no way represents the entire list of exclusive titles for each console. However, it gives us a pretty good idea of the games rumored to be released this year.

PS3:

Resistance 2 (PS3)

Guaranteed success. While the first was a great game and fairly big success, it was still just a launch title. Imagine what they can do after a couple years and games under their belt. 8 player Co-Op! Expect big things from this game.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3)

Another guaranteed success. Anyone who plays Gran Turismo will grab this game. If you're a fan, you're a fan. The visuals continue to improve, HD replays, 'nuff said!

Haze (PS3)

Hopefully the game will finally end it's long series of delays this year. This game promises some intense action, including 4-player co-op, drop-in, drop-out, split-screen, online, or local multiplayer options. The game continues to impress visually, with not only the quality of graphics, but the very cool, unique design elements.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)

Who doesn't know about this game? The game is still months away and is already epic. If any game could live up to the hype this game has garnered, leave it to Solid Snake, old or young. Like most of the games on this list, the visuals are amazing. The game looks to pack in an enormous amount of story and gameplay. The game features a immense arsenal of weapons and combat/stealth moves. If you own a PS3, you are almost required to buy this. You know you will.

SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3)

Still early on this title, few details have been released. The game will support up to 32 players online. Customizable weapons much like SOCOM 3. Also like the previous SOCOM games, the focus will be online multiplayer. Early word says this one will go the way of Warhawk, offering online only possibly with a bluetooth headset and all. After all, the original SOCOM kind of pioneered headset use on consoles.

LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

Possibly one of the most innovative, cute, and anticipated games of the year. Little Big Planet looks to expand the PS3 audience with this "build-your-own-game" game. Eat your heart out Nintendo Miis, this game looks great. The shear level of creativity allowed is staggering. The game also supports 4-player co-op and versus. Plus, it's kid friendly without being offensively cute.

God of War III (PS3)

The PS2 went out with a bang (though it's still hanging in there) with the original God of War, and most recently it's sequel, still on the aging console. People have been waiting for a true "next-gen" God of War experience and it looks as though 2008 is gonna be your year, possibly. Not much is know as of yet, however, the games creator, David Jaffe, is no longer working on the series so we'll just have to wait and see how everything turns out.

Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) - Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)

You're either a fan, or you're not, though, you've got to recognize the scale of the Final Fantasy franchise. The games continue to set graphical standards with every release. The next, XIII, looks to make good on their reputation. Not only are they again improving every visual, and storytelling aspect of the game, they are overhauling the combat as well. The combat in Final Fantasy XIII promises the speed up and intensify the battles.

MotorStorm 2 (PS3) [Teaser Trailer]

Another sequel to a previous PS3 exclusive, MotorStorm 2 hasn't revealed much, but from the trailer we can expect yet another pre-rendered bar set too high for them to reach with in-game graphics. Don't get me wrong, the original looked great, but the video they showed a year earlier looked 10-times better. This was the prettiest of all the racers for a while, but we'll see how the sequel compares to the likes of Gran Turismo 5 HD later this year. Some of the improvements include new cars/trucks/motorcycles, tracks, and best of all, a much needed 4-player split-screen mode. The game's also said to include 16-player online support.

Killzone 2 (PS3)

So, video and screenshots have shown just how good the game really looks in action. But what about gameplay? The original was not exactly praised by critics, though I quite enjoyed it (minus the large number of glitches). It definitely wasn't the "Halo Killer" it was touted as. The sequel will have to really prove itself in such a crowded shooter market. Guerrilla Games has yet to reveal any real details on gameplay, i.e. co-op, multiplayer, customization? The game sure does look good though. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

XBOX 360:

Ninja Gaiden II (360)

Finally on to the Xbox 360, I thought we'd never get here. Ninja Gaiden II, the first official, true sequel, promises to up everything that made the original so popular. More action, more bad guys, more blood (almost too much), and more speed. The game's creators have also addressed the difficulty issues some (many) had with the other games. They've said that without dumbing it down, they will be changing the controls in order to improve and lessen the frustration to newcomers. They're also adding new weapons to the game and a ton of new character animations to keep the visuals fresh.

Too Human (360)

An epic in the making, Too Human is already set to be part of a trilogy. Everyone loves a trilogy. They've created an enormous world with a unique technology and organic design. The game is built on story, including a very ambitious new dynamic camera system that's supposed to always give you the best view of the action during gameplay. The game also features a plethora of RPG elements to keep you interested. As with most RPGs you can upgrade almost everything, from weapons, to armor, to special abilities that extend your combat. The game also features a unique combat system, using the right analog stick for both melee and ranged attacks.

Fable 2 (360)

Sequel to a game that was a giant leap in artificial intelligence, Fable 2 looks to surpass it's predecessor in every way. The ultimate choice between good and evil. This time your options are even greater. Similar to another Lionhead game, Black & White, the player will be given a pet in order to help you throughout the game, and also as a friend you can bond with. peter Molyneux, the games creator has said he wants the game to get the player emotionally involved. Just a guess, but you can probably expect that your dog will eventually die. In addition to a game with conscience, the game is one of the first games to introduce money into the game before it's release. That's right, you can begin earning gold to spend in Fable 2 before the game ever hits store shelve, thanks to downloadable arcade games on Xbox Live.

Banjo-Kazooie 3 (360)

Very little is know of Bajo-Kazooie 3, if that is in fact it's name. Rare, the company developing the game, released a short teaser trailer back in September 2006. It really didn't show any gameplay, however, it did show a new boxy art style you can see in the screenshots above. You can expect the regular Bajo-Kazooie platform elements, collect everything in sight, teamwork to reach different areas and beat different enemies, and large open worlds. The Xbox 360 isn't exactly known for having many platformers, so this will be a welcome addition. The last time we had a Banjo game was back on the N64.

Gears of War 2 (360)

Do I really have to say anything? Gears of War 2. You knew they would make it. The first was such a huge success, it actually beat Halo for top online multiplayer game, if only because it was the last-gen Halo 2. The game features everything new the Unreal Engine 3 has to offer. More enemies on screen, more destruction, more realistic lighting, and more chainsawing action. Another emergence day awaits us this fall.

Halo Wars

Halo isn't dead! At least the Halo universe isn't. Halo Wars is the first Halo game that isn't a Halo game. It's a real-time strategy. While the game isn't being developed solely over at Bungie, it is being developed from the ground up for the Xbox 360 and console gameplay. Meaning they've supposedly solved some of the problems that plague many real-time strategy games on consoles. Did you know that Halo was originally a real-time strategy game being developed for the Mac? It's true.

Splinter Cell: Conviction (360)

The next step for Sam Fisher looks remarkably similar to a Bourne Identity type game. That said, it still looks great. They've dropped the green eyed goggles in exchange for a man bag (ala Jack Bauer), hoodie, and beard, and they've got a stripped down and dirty, raw, Splinter Cell game where you're now a fugitive from the law. The new game looks to change more than Sam's fashion, focusing on what Ubisoft is calling "All new improvisation-based gameplay". Where your inventory is actually the world around you, pick up and throw chairs, etc. Use crowds to your advantage, similar to Assassin's Creed. This could be a great way to freshen up the series, or it could go too far from it's roots and lose fans.

Left 4 Dead (360)

Zombies, Co-Op, Valve, Source, 'nuff said. The "43 in Left 4 Dead actually means something, it's not just l337 speak. That's right, 4-player co-op for a zombie first person shooter. A lot of people have high expectations for this one, and it looks like it could live up to them. Not a fan of being human, well they've got you covered. You can choose to play as a zombie, or "infected" as they're called in the game. There are a number of different types of zombies each with different strengths and weaknesses. The brain eating should commence around October.

Alan Wake (360)

Do you like psychological thrillers? Alan Wake is a presented as more of a "movie" like game than a traditional action game. They're officially calling it a "psychological action thriller". The game has been in development for a while now (it won GameSpy's Best of E3 2005) and claims to have a 2008 release date, we'll see. It looks beautiful, the developer's have spent a lot of time on really capturing the mood of a thriller. They've included full realtime day-to-night lighting and weather effects.

That's quite a bit and I'm tired. This should gives you something to think about if your making a console purchase this year. I'm sure there are a lot of games coming out that aren't on this list. I've just covered some of the biggest of the console exclusives for 2008.

Educational Wii Games - 2009

Wii games are known to be extremely entertaining, which is their most basic appeal. This is also the case when it comes to the category of Educational Wii Games - they are not boring or trite my any means, and it's this aspect of the educational style of games that makes them quite popular with kids and adults alike.

At this point of writing (May 2009), there are just a few educational Wii games on the market to choose from, but the ones that are available have a number of appealing factors about them. Here are two of the top sellers in terms of popularity and high consumer ratings:

Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree - This set of games focuses on a few areas including math, visual recognition and various memory activities. In all of these activities, players are made to think quickly which is part of the overall challenge. It's good for kids as well as adults and is a popular game for families to play together as well as providing "mental challenge competitions" for group gatherings.

Smarty Pants for Wii - Rather than having one or a few specific focuses in terms of learning, this is a general information trivia type of a game. This is my personal favorite of the Wii educational games specifically for kids to play since it bases its questions upon age (entered early on in the game), making it specific to a particular learning level. This makes it a great choice for kids and adults too.

Both of these educational Wii games are created for players approximately 8 years and older, and are a great choice whether you're looking for fun and mentally challenging games for kids or adults.

Star Wars, The Old Republic - Anticipating a Best Seller

Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) is perhaps the most anticipated Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game (MMORPG) we've seen in years.

Its developers entreat us:

"Explore an age thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader when war between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire divides the galaxy."

In brief, the background story is as follows:

After centuries of relative peace, the Sith have returned from 'deep space' Catching the Republic and the Jedi Order by surprise, the Sith sacked the republican capital of Coruscant. A disadvantageous treaty has been signed, and the Jedi have relocated their council their home-world of Typhon. The galaxy is on a 'knife-edge': the peace treaty is fragile; and skirmishes are common. It is into this arena that players will step. Whether to support the Sith, or the Republic - or simply to serve themselves - that is the choice facing players.

Regardless of which choice they make, gamers around the world are in expectation of an expansive and deep role-playing experience.

Developers, Bioware have proclaimed that whichever class players choose, the game will be story-driven: with unique storylines for each class, and moral challenges which affect story-line and character development.

So far only two classes have been revealed at the official SWTOR website: the Trooper and Bounty Hunter classes. But in an exclusive interview with Gamespot, the developers have confirmed another class: 'the Smuggler'.

Ultimately, there are expected to be eight classes: two of which will most likely include the Jedi and the Sith.

Each class choice is expected to provide a distinctive experience.

The Troopers are to be the Galactic Republic's finest: elite soldiers with access to advanced heavy weaponry, grenades and "almost impenetrable armour". While based on the 'clone troopers' and 'storm troopers' of the Star Wars movies, the SWTOR Trooper class are 'the best': and are not to be underestimated.

Streaming video at the SWTOR website also feature Troopers' use of "sticky grenades": which upon attaching themselves to an enemy, appear impossible to evade.

(Further: in breaking news from Bioware, Troopers are now expected to enjoy a range of "morale themed party buffs." (a very important development with regards to game balance) Hopefully we'll hear more of this soon.)

And as with other classes, the Trooper class will confront tough moral quandaries in search of victory over a ruthless and callous foe. Will they do whatever is necessary - achieve victory "at any cost"? Or will they adhere to a moral code: but risk defeat?

The 'Bounty Hunter' class, meanwhile, is to provide a 'shadier' and possibly "morally-ambiguous" role-playing experience. Bioware describes the class as "Hunter, seeker, Killer for hire". These men and women spend their lives "on the edge" - their life-paths leading to "a life of infamous glory... or to a quick and ignominious death." "Shifting allegiances, unbeatable odds, and deadly showdowns are common in the occurrences in the life of a Bounty Hunter."

Bounty Hunters also have access to state-of-the-art equipment from the 'black market': wrist rockets, flamers, heavy yet flexible armour. jetpacks. For those wanting to play a "Boba Fett fantasy" this class will surely hold a strong allure.

Finally, there is the Smuggler class. The Smuggler is set to appeal to those with "a Han Solo fantasy".

To date Smugglers have not formally featured as a class at the official SWTOR website. But in an exclusive interview with Gamespot, we are given an 'advance insight' into this intriguing class choice. Crucially, Dallas Dickinson reveals that:

"The smuggler class utilizes a dynamic cover system in combat, which is also a first for the MMO space."

The 'dynamic cover' system includes 'shooting from around corners', and - because of superior initiative - shooting first.

In addition to use of cover, the Smuggler is set to have powerful charismatic force, and is to make use of 'quick thinking'. Further, the Smuggler class provides the choice of whether to take sides "for patriotism" or for "simple profiteering." Possible missions could involve: "contraband, people, lost treasures" - enough for a fully immersive role-playing experience.

Hopefully the class will be more fully 'fleshed out' in the coming weeks.

Weapons, armour, and cover - what kind of choices will we have?

There are other issues, though, that face Bioware in developing this title: and we will consider some of them now.

The Smuggler class's use of cover will be a critical aspect of the game. Clearly developers are searching for 'signature' abilities which define each class. But while use of cover could comprise a critical skill for Smugglers - surely such tactics should not be restricted to them only.

Assuming advanced training, surely Troopers should also be able to take advantage of cover. This should be a 'feat' - available to all classes: but one in which certain classes (eg: the Smugglers, Troopers) enjoy bonuses in its acquisition and application.

Use of cover - and related actions - might also involve tactical questions not yet explored in 'developer dispatches' from Bioware.

While the Trooper's armour may have a significant power to reflect, absorb or otherwise neutralise attacks which hit; dodge and evasion skills, and use of cover could prevent attacking from making contact in the first place.

And in addition to this, all players ought be able to lay on the ground: to minimise the area vulnerable to attack - and provide a smaller target.

Such tactical choices could provide depth to the game-play experience: and a more satisfying and authentic gaming experience.

Availability of a wide range of grenade types could also provide greater tactical choice to the Trooper class - and possibly others capable of using such weaponry.. Already we have the 'sticky' high explosive grenades: but what of electronic grenades to short-circuit droids; or what about 'flash' grenades (blinding) or stun grenades? Grenades hold potentially critical tactical importance - as they may be able to overcome the enemy's use of cover - because of blast radius...

And for all classes there needs to be a wide variety of weapons - not just heavy weapons.

Pistols and light rifles could be less cumbersome - easier to use 'from around corners' (especially useful for Smugglers) - or to wield while laying on the ground. Heavier weapons, meanwhile, might be more difficult to use from a position of cover. Some might even 'overheat' if over-used.

Heavy weapons might also have recoil (affecting accuracy depending on the players' skill and strength); or because they are cumbersome may affect agility/dodge/stealth. (But if so expect this to me 'made up for' by 'packing an incredible punch!') Finally, sniper rifles might involve slow reloads, but may have no problem with overheating, while providing excellent criticals, accuracy and range.

Armour type should also be of critical importance. Some heavy armour should be cumbersome, incurring penalties to agility/dodge and stealth abilities. Advanced (maybe experimental) armour may at least partly overcome this. And maybe some light armour could include stealth functions. Some suits of power armour may boost strength and melee potency. Some may enhance speed. Others could absorb certain energy types.

Importantly: whether for armour, or lightsabers, or other weapons: there needs to be maximum scope for customisation. Think, here, of Mass Effect, and the Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) series: customised plates, scopes, crystals, ammunition, ad infinitum. A great variety, here, is what I think players will want.

Other skills

There are many other possible dimensions to the game also - that so far have not received much attention. Let's not underestimate skills such as stealth, dodge/evasion, healing, ranged and melee critical hits, and the influence of charisma and diplomacy... Smugglers, in particular, could specialise in some of these areas - increasing their appeal and versatility - even if use of cover is not their exclusive domain.

Other possible skills could include: disarming or laying down traps, opening electronic doors, and hacking into computer systems.

Perhaps there may even be scope to incorporate 'mini-games' associated with some of these skills - providing greater depth and variability of game-play. Indeed: this could be but 'the tip of the iceberg'.

What about factions and moral choice?

Most modern MMORPGS today involve factional and/or political affiliation choices - and hopefully SWTOR will expand and improve on this. The developers have trumpeted the core role of ethical choices for each player and each class. Players will desire for this will be implemented in as credible manner as possible.

Some classes seem relatively 'clear cut' on the surface - such as the Trooper. But even here - as recognised earlier - there will be morally ambiguous decisions to be made - where 'right' and 'wrong' are not clear cut. (eg: the use of physical threat to extract information from an enemy when there are many lives at stake)

Meanwhile: the Bounty Hunter and Smuggler classes should provide relative flexibility in terms of affiliations and allegiances. Ultimately, some will 'follow the flow of credits'. Others may be won over by their 'better angels' - their consciences - to work only for the Republic -and fight against the Sith.

Depending on the storylines Bioware develops -even a Jedi might turn to darkness; or a Sith 'to the light'. (It has been done before - and thus shouldn't be too surprising)

But assuming there are to be hard moral choices - what effect does this have on the game? Assuming there is real flexibility in affiliation and advancement of the story line: how will this flexibility be handled? The system of KOTOR I & II ought be reflected upon here. In rewarding extremes of benign and malicious behaviour, moral 'shades of grey' were excluded.

The difficulty is in allowing for 'shades of grey' while discouraging inconsistent, erratic and seemingly senseless changes of behaviour. 'Extremes' ought not be rewarded on principle: but genuine 'role-playing' in the advancement of the story ought be rewarding in of itself. This is an important issue for discussion: raising questions that Bioware ought address sooner rather than later.

Keeping them coming back for more...

Much has been said of the real choice offered to players: and the 'unique' gaming experiences that are being planned for each class. That said, the developers must be aiming for an immersive gaming experience - the sort that will keep players 'coming back for more'.

Instead of subscribing for a month or two and 'burning out' - the developers will want to provide a product that provides satisfaction over 'the long term.' Unique class story lines are part of this challenge - but even 'maxing out' in one class, and finishing the storyline of one class - should at least take several months.

Some have suggested a cap of 'level 10': others of "level 50"! Most importantly, though - there needs to be plenty of scope for multiple branching storylines with real options for character development; a gripping and evolving main story-line - where the world changes with the actions of the various player factions; and enjoyable and challenging PvP combat.

Critically: Don't let it turn into another grind: 'camping out for spawns' with little story or substantial content. (thankfully this doesn't look likely)

Also importantly: the developers need to get the balance right with regard to character advancement. There must always be another accomplishment 'within reach' - 'over the next horizon'. And yet 'levelling up' - or gaining skills in between levels - needs to be a real achievement too.

A three hour gaming session ought be able to provide some kind of advancement in skills - at least at the lower and middle ranged levels. And if advancement at higher levels is more challenging - how then to keep high level players involved? What motivation will there be to keep them playing? Hopefully all these issues will be addressed in the coming months...

Conclusion

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a game of enormous promise. Because it is likely to be in competition with 'Star Trek Online' and 'Stargate Worlds' - it will have to deliver to players on an ongoing basis to achieve the market share its publishers must be aiming for.

Rappelz is an intense fantasy MMORPG game that everyone can play, the game is released as a free game and you only need an account and the game installed to begin your adventure.

As many other similar games Rappelz has a very interesting game-play that reminds me of world of warcraft but this game is more focused on the Asian type of fantasy MMORPG games where you have to grind most of the game with a group of people and gain levels in the many dungeons Rappelz has.

What separates this game from any other MMORPG out there is that you can have pets and you actually train them and select what they learn as the gain levels which makes the game very unique considering there is a lot of pets that you can collect by taming them with the appropriate pet card in your inventory. This sounds great until you try to tame a higher rarity pet and you realize the chance to tame one is one percent or less which is disappointing but if you are dedicated you might be one of the lucky players on each server who have succeeded and tamed a rare pet.

The game begins in a training island where you are shown how to play, fight, upgrade armor, tame and things like that and this is where you get your first pet. As you complete the quests you gain levels and around level 15 you can leave the island and continue your journey to all the mysterious dungeons and bosses roaming around. Like any other multiplayer game there is the chance that some stronger player will kill (PK) you but not to worry, you dont loose any of your items and with just a click you are back to town where you are safe and alive.

The Auction is a very popular place where players can auction their items, pets, and even premium items (cash shop). Most of the game evolves around stamina savers which give you double experience and after level 50 that will be pretty much the only way to gain levels the easy way.

Since the game is free there is a cash shop as I mentioned above you can buy premium items like stamina savers and other helpful items that cost real money and by purchasing those items you support the game developer and keep the game alive.

Rappelz is just one of those games that are very fun until you get to the very high levels where it takes you a few days of grinding dungeons to gain a single level and the only way to do it in a few days is by purchasing stamina savers. Another con is that good armor for high level characters is very hard to find and it can cost a lot of rupees to purchase.

Graphics are very good and very pretty to look at but there is still some glitches.
Sounds is very real and unique.
Gameplay is easy with the help of hot keys.
Economy is not exactly where it should be and most cool items are very overpriced in the Rappelz world.

I'm thinking about bringing Dance Dance Revolution into my Intermediate classroom.

Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) is a video game by Konami that was released in the arcades of Japan in 1998 and is now available across several home entertainment systems, including Playstation, Wii, and Xbox.

Players stand on a dance platform with arrows pointing up, down, left, and right. By listening to the music and watching a computer screen, players need to tap the corresponding arrows on the beat.

There are different levels of difficulty, so game play can range from simple to challenging. On the nintendo Wii, Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party includes the use of the wii remote. Up to 4 players have to move both their hands and feet to the beat.

Overall, DDR is a high-interest, low-skill activity that appeals to the video-game generation, and as a teacher who continually looks for innovative ways to achieve curriculum expectations through technology, DDR is in my sights.

In April 2007, the NY Times reported on how some Physical Education classes are using Dance Dance Revolution to get Grade 7 students moving.

* A projected 1,500 schools in West Virgina are expected to be using the game by the end of the decade.

* "At least 10 states" in the US are using DDR as a "regular part of their physical education curriculum" to fight obesity.

* DDR appeals to school boards and educators as a non-competitive form of movement (compared to traditional sports.)

You could use DDR as an extra-curriculuar club, to meet daily physical activity (DPA) requirements, or as part of a phys-ed program.

* Most students will be watching the screen and practicing moving to the beat while they wait for their turn on the mats.

* Depending on how much you're willing to spend, you could have up to 4 people actually playing on the videogame system.

* You can set the difficulty level for each player independently, which means that an expert and a beginner could be playing at the same time.

So you've got yourself an Xbox 360? Congratulations. However not long after plugging it in you may suddenly notice your Xbox 360 has flashing red lights instead of green ones. Not so fortunate after all perhaps.

Unfortunately you have joined a list of ever expanding Xbox 360 owners facing the 'xbox red light' problem. The exact number of owners that face this xbox red light problem seems hard to tell, although the failure rate of these consoles has been estimated to be as high as 60% of all units sold.

If you are one of the unlucky people suffering this problem you do have a couple of options to consider. The first option (provided your console is under warrantee) is to send it back to Microsoft for the repair.

For those followers of the game from way back when, when you saw a top down view of our anti hero rushing round doing dodgy jobs and generally being a favourite household sociopath chases back then reminding me of a game called "run baby run" on the Spectrum. Liberty City is the place to be with a mix of night perps and ordinary people, then slowly spice this up with a bit of crime and rocketlaunchers and you just about have it? Oh did I mention that it looks fantastic! Not only are the character interactions smooth and well executed but you get a whole host of options on how you play the character.

The cars and motorbikes look fantastic, and everyone has different properties depending on type or size. When you wipe out on a motorbike the character movements are amazing no longer rag doll but intelligent accident. With Niko as the lead you have some excellent voice overs in the back ground, giving the game realism in a kind of sociopathic way. Starting off as a Taxi driver for your cousin the game slowly leads you into the torrent of energy that is grand theft auto IV. Whether its beating up drug dealers for a friend or doing errands for the mob it isnt long before you have gotten in deep with only speed and some heavy artillery to get you out.

Basically the whole thing looks like New York, feels like New York but is actually Liberty city. Interaction is great with the ability to shoot some pool or have a quick shandy down the local with a mate. The bridges may well have a toll to pay and if you try to get into a car to drive after having a few drinks the police will arrest you. Anyway enough talking get out their and have a go its brilliant and before anyone says anything about gratuitous violence and the like, your right it is and has mature content but that is why it also has an 18 certificate. Parents police your consoles and computers, but those that are old enough spend some time tearing it up with the lights low and the volume growling.

Upgraded to this Xbox 360 over a 20 gb that I had for a couple years. Compared to the 20 gb, this one is almost silent. My old one sounded like a hair dryer and got really hot. I had four games that would work intermittently or not work at all on my old unit and they all work great on this one.
I really like the color as it matches my PS3. I also needed a new headset, so that was a bonus (and it is black...cool factor).
My old one RROD'ed once about a year into it, but was pretty stable after that and it had a lot of usage. The extra storage on the unit will come in really handy. I do not feel the need to install games on the hard drive because of the quietness of it.

I enjoy having both consoles as they are both great systems. I still play games on a SNES and a N64.

Note: This review does contain some spoilers. However, they largely pertain to the first game and the spoilers for Bio 2 are stuff you'd find out at the very beginning. Also, I'm writing this under the assumption that people are familiar with the basics of Bioshock and Rapture even if they didn't play the 1st one. Finally, I have not played multiplayer, so I can't vouch for it. With that, on to the review...

Story: Bioshock had one of the best stories in modern gaming, as it took Ayn Rand and ran with it, putting extreme Objectivism in a horror setting Rob Zombie would enjoy and sprinkling on some "Manchurian Candidate" for good measure. It also produced extremely interesting characters. Andrew Ryan is one of the better villains in modern gaming because he has hubris. He truly believes mankind will evolve and thrive with religious morality and all but the bare minimum of government authority absent; he just doesn't understand there is something inherently selfish and evil about humans and that without at least some regulation humanity will descend into chaos, with horrific consequences. Dr. Tenenbaum, the creator of the Little Sisters, is another interesting character, so guilt-ridden by what she's done that by the time the main character, Jack, has stumbled into Rapture she's hard at work trying to restore the Little Sisters to their human form and get them out of Rapture. And then there's Atlas/Fontaine. 'Nuf said. However, I just wasn't really invested in Jack. It wasn't that his character was uninteresting (the Fight Club-esque revelation sees to that); it's just that you're not overly concerned about what happens to him or to the Little Sisters. Also, the ending was abrupt, anti-climatic, and out of place in lieu of everything that had happened. Still, though, Bioshock contained one hell of a story about survival and horrible self-realization.

Bioshock 2's story is set 8 years following the events in the first game. This time, you play an older-model Big Daddy codenamed Delta. As the flashbacks show, 10 years earlier you were following your adopted Little Sister around (having developed an unusually strong bond with her) when suddenly Dr. Sophia Lamb (the new antagonist) uses a Hypnotize Plasmid to force you to blow your brains out. However, now you've been revived via a Vita-Chamber, and you're now desperately searching the ruins of Rapture for your lost Little Sister, Eleanor. The guiding philosophy of Dr. Lamb is the polar opposite of Ryan's. She's a collectivist, believing in "the greatest good for the greatest number", even if it means murdering people and kidnapping little girls from the surface and taking them down to Rapture to be transformed into Little Sisters. The problem is, Dr. Lamb is just not a great villain; she's just Nurse Rached (of "Cuckoo's Nest") in video game form: cold, manipulative, and meglomaniacal. Dr. Tenenbaum makes a brief appearance at the beginning of the game (she apparently fled Rapture and is now back to save the new Little Sisters and get them out of Rapture), but she's otherwise absent. This absence doesn't detract from the story, but she was so interesting in the 1st game it would have been nice to know what she'd been up to and to know a little more about her dark past. Sinclair (your guide and essentially Bio 2's answer to Atlas) isn't nearly as good or as interesting as Fontaine, even with his Southern draw and the horrible thing that happens to him at the end. Delta, however, is a far better main character than Jack, primarily because you are emotionally invested in him. There is an invisible, melancholy sadness about him as he searches for Eleanor (which isn't to say he's not a bad-ass). Furthermore, there is much more of an emotional component to tracking down and harvesting/saving Little Sisters. Instead of constantly hearing "Look, Mr. Bubbles, it's an angel" you hear things like "You'll always be there for me, Daddy?". In this game, the Little Sisters really do see their Big Daddies as fathers, making harvesting them even more reprehensible (in the end, I couldn't do it, even though this is a video game; you really do get that emotional vibe off of them). Overall, I'd say this one is a draw between the 2 games.

Gameplay: There are several changes to note for Bioshock 2, all of which I believe enhance the game over the 1st one. Because you are a Big Daddy, you can wield a Plasmid and a weapon at the same time. Not only do you not have to waste time switching back and forth in the middle of a battle but now it's easier to use environmental kills on your enemies, making for some pretty cool attacks and set-ups. Because you are a Big Daddy, instead of a wrench you have the drill, which as with weapons can be upgraded at the Power to the People stations. The drill can be upgraded to repel enemy fire, and eventually you will get an upgrade that will allow you to charge your opponent, which is pretty handy (no pun intended).

As for situations and enemies, your basic Splicers return with a few additions. The Bruiser Splicer is an overgrown beast that requires a significant amount of firepower to defeat (recommend explosives and anti-personnel rounds and the Winter Blast Plasmid). The new-model Big Daddies aren't any more armored than they were in the previous game, but they now move a lot faster and some have explosives launchers (if you have the Telekinesis Plasmid, they're still not hard to defeat). However, the biggest edition to the enemies list are the Big Sisters. These armored monsters move fast, use Plasmids of their own, and possess Spider Splicer abilities, meaning you'll need patience, traps, and plenty of ammo and Eve to defeat. Overall, in fact, the Splicers are significantly more difficult than in the 1st game. In the first game, I could get all the upgrades to my shotgun and easily take out a Houdini Splicer (at least in Easy and Medium modes). In this game, you'll still need a lot of skill and planning to defeat them. Furthermore, you're limited to 6 each of Health Kits and Eve Syringes (and that's if you buy upgrades; otherwise it's 5 and 5), so by the final battle you're really going to be using everything you've got, even on Easy.

If you decide to "adopt" a Little Sister, you have the option of letting them walk around collecting Adam from dead bodies. The benefit of this is you get just as much Adam as you would harvesting these poor kids. The bad news is that while they're harvesting, you have to defend them from wave after difficult wave of Splicers, requiring careful planning and full health and ammo. It's an interesting scenario (although not mandatory; you can just drop the kid off at a vent and be done with it) and will really test your skills. In this respect, definitely an upgrade over the 1st game.

Graphics and so forth: Not much has changed. Bioshock 2 uses the same graphics engine as before, so don't expect any changes there, and Rapture looks almost exactly the same. In fact, some areas - such as Sander Cohen's digs - are carryovers from the 1st game (with some alterations to reflect Rapture's destroyed state). This is somewhat disappointing, because it means the wonder of Rapture is now gone, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The music is also essentially a carryover from the first game.

Conclusion: Bioshock 2 takes the 1st game and makes several significant improvements that enhance the experience. While graphics and sounds stand pat, and even though most of the characters aren't as interesting as the ones previous, Bioshock 2 is a must-have for any FPS fan.

The Story
Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster somehow familiar, yet still quite different from anything ever seen has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city. It is a Big Sister, new denizens of Rapture who were once one of the forgotten little girls known as Little Sisters, known to inhabit the city's dank halls. No longer a pawn used to harvest ADAM, the dangerously powerful gene-altering lifeblood of Rapture, from the bodies of others and in turn run the risk of being harvested herself, the Big Sister is now the fastest and most powerful thing in Rapture. You, on the other hand are the very first Big Daddy, in fact the prototype, that for some reason has reactivated. You are similar to the Big Daddies familiar from the original BioShock, but also very different in that you possess free will and no memory of the events of the past ten years. The question is, as you travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city beneath the waves, hunting for answers and the solution to your own survival, are you really the hunter, or the hunted?

Gameplay and Multiplayer
In BioShock 2 players will take on the role of the original Big Daddy, not that of game one protagonist, Jack. As a Big Daddy you will have access to all the strengths and weapons of a standard Big Daddy, including the drill and rivet gun. More importantly you also possess free will and the ability to use plasmids and gene tonics genetic modifications allowed for through ADAM, a stem cell harvested from conquered enemies, or sea slugs outside the Rapture air lock, and powered by the in-game injectable serum known as EVE, which can be found, captured or purchased. Plasmids and gene tonics provide a wide range of aggressive and passive abilities which can be upgraded and arranged for quick use. The ability to use plasmids and tonics gives you a decided edge over other Big Daddies and most other denizens of Rapture, excluding the powerful Big Sisters. In addition, due to their role as a Big Daddy, players will experience a new relation to the Little Sisters. Upon defeating standard Big Daddys you are given the familiar choice as to whether to harvest or adopt them. Harvesting gains you ADAM immediately, but could alter your path through the game, while adopting makes you responsible for Little Sisters, who then accompany you through Rapture, but also provide aid and warning in times of danger. Additional gameplay features include: new plasmids, weapons and the ability to combine these two.

The game also features the anticipated multiplayer modes. Several of these are team-based, allowing up to 10 players. Within these players are provided with a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction, and allows you to play as one of several characters pulled from Rapture's history before the events of the first game.

Most of the reviews that have been coming out for this game seem to spend most of their time talking about how similar this game is to other games. I am not really sure about the relevance of this. This game is excellent.

First off, I want to say that I am pretty tired of reviews saying they just started playing the game. If you have not finished the game(or got so frustrated or bored that you gave up on the game) you have no right to leave your opinion. Funny that most of the reviews are from people who played the game an hour or two!!.

It took me about 23 hours to finish this game and I did not explore every nook and cranny of this massive game world. I spent full price for this title and really felt like I got a great deal. The graphics are top notch. The puzzle designs are very complex and obviously a lot of thought went into them. With the exception of the last level with the three robots you have to fight(not kidding--yes there are robots to fight. Why three of the same robot??) I enjoyed every minute of this game.

Checkpoints are well spaced and if you die in a platforming part, you are placed on the last place you were without having to restart at checkpoint. They did make this a bit more challenging then something like Prince of Persia though as you lose a piece of your life bar every time you die. I have never seen something like this done before in a game.

The fights and especially the bosses are very epic. Nearly every boss--with the exception of the last boss and the spider boss, are really puzzles which need to be solved rather than a big thing with a huge health bar that you have to beat down. Most of the bosses can be defeated in less than 5 minutes once you know how but the fun is figuring out the method behind it. The only negatives I have are that the frame rate slowed down from time to time and there were some cheap opponents in this game--that spinning flying thing for one, that acid spitting creature for another.

The load times on this game are nonexistent--literally, you never see a load screen except when you start the game. Loads are done during cutscenes. Why don't all developers do that?? The best part is the fact that this game ends with an obvious hint that there will be a Darksiders 2. Can I preorder this now????

BTW, I am no ashamed to say I am a hardcore PS gamer. Sold my Xbox and never miss it(well until Mass Effect 2 game out that is--loved the first one) My PSN ID is GREMdude

Darksiders is a third-person, single player action/adventure game inspired by the characters, themes and mythology of the apocalypse and the battle of Armageddon described by the Book of Revelation. But this modern interpretation is not your run of the mill Sunday school stroll through the New Testament. Once the unstoppable and just wielder of divine retribution, War is now reduced in stature and cast out amongst the ruined lands of the Earth that he himself devastated. All that remains is the search for the truth behind his betrayal and the survival of its consequences.

The Story
Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War - the first Horseman of the Apocalypse - stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between heaven and hell. Dishonored and stripped of his powers, War must return to Earth to search for the truth and punish those responsible. But there is no clear definition of good and evil in this tale. Hunted by a vengeful group of angels, War must take on the forces of Hell, forge uneasy alliances with the very demons he hunts, and journey across the ravaged remains of the Earth on his quest for vindication. But the answers he seeks will reveal a deep conspiracy in which War will find, and have to resign himself to the reality that although once the hand of God, he is just a pawn in the eternal battle between heaven and hell.

Gameplay
A mix of exploration and fast-paced action gameplay, Darksiders is based on nonlinear play situations. That means that as War slowly regains his previous powers of destruction and carnage in order to continue his search for the origins and reasons for his betrayal, players will be able to backtrack to areas and scenarios that they may have left unexplored upon first discovery. Almost all areas of the game can be explored and some of the things players will find as they do so are treasure chests, health chests, and bonus life points, etc. The ability to go back and explore areas is important, especially as the game progresses and War finds himself up against enemies whose defeat require special skills and/or weaponry.

As for combat gameplay, Darksiders features a variety of weapons--including blades and firearms--that can be used in combo moves or in single strikes. Some of these can be charged up for quick, but devastating attacks on enemies and all can be arranged on your controller's D-pad for easy and preferred access. Additional gameplay elements include the ability/necessity to fight from the back of your mount, Ruin, and the collection of the souls in the form of glowing orbs that fall to the ground as enemies are dispatched. The latter can be used to level up War with new items and abilities.

Varied Characters and Environments
Although players take on the imposing role or War, Darksiders also contains a wide variety of equally intriguing and sometimes frightening characters. These include: an assortment of vengeful angels; demons, such as "the Jailer" whose body is made up of the remains of countless cadavers; a bestiary of wicked and vile creatures created to bolster the armies of hell on Earth; and Ruin, the trusty steed of War. Gameplay environments players will experience are equally varied, and include areas both underground and on the surface, that call to mind both familiar, if ruined modern urban environments, as well as ones seemingly pulled from the nightmarish scenes of the biblical apocalypse.

Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast was a watershed moment in the history of games: an online MMO available on a home console, offering tons of depth and customization while being totally intuitive.

White Knight Chronicles' online mode channels some of that same magic, and steals the show away from the competent, but overly straight-forward single player mode. The combo system allows you to create and name elaborate spells using various sword swipes and magic attacks, which can carve giants and boss characters in half in a matter of seconds (if you know how to use them). Despite the complexity of this system, the game is very approachable. You can beat it knowing only the basics of how attacks work, but crunching the numbers to create the coolest, most devastating spells is very rewarding, and the highlight of a very grind-centric single player experience. This long, hard, slog through some of the most beautiful vistas the PS3 has to offer is punctuated by elaborate, cinematic story sequences and awesome White Knight fight scenes where you locate your opponent's weak limbs and then devastate them with ease. The single player gives an incredible amount of flavor and atmosphere to the setting which adds immensely to the main attraction: the online mode.

The greatest feature of the online mode is player-created towns. Players HAVE to meet in a created town in order to get together, meaning as long as you can afford some basic window dressing you can get people coming into your town, buying your wares, and setting up quests for you to join from the get-go. Maximizing and customizing your character is always fun, but it doesn't come close to the amount of time you'll spend creating the most beautiful city in the Geoverse. With sixteen different attributes to maximize, as well as an overall city level, it's easy - even at low levels - to optimize your city for one trait, giving you an advantage over much higher level players, and ensuring people who need those items will bookmark your town. Unless you opt to pay real money for some premium buildings, you should wait until you're level 15 or so before saving money to focus on your town, since it's even more of a money sink than getting your character the best weapons and armor. It works both ways though, you get a MASSIVE discount on items sold in your own town, so it can be one of the best ways to enhance your weapons and armor!

The instanced dungeons are familiar fare to PSO fans, and getting friends together to chat (with a keyboard or headset) and take down waves of monsters while completing objectives is as fun as ever. But it's all the ancillary parts of this experience: the armor you crafted by recruiting blacksmiths to your city, exploring the caves you barely touched in the single player game, chatting with friends you met on the in game message board, that make it a complete adventure. White Knight Chronicles gives context to an enjoyable dungeon crawl with city creation and an excellent story mode. It's everything I wanted the next Phantasy Star Online to be.

Story
The story of White Knight Chronicles is set in the fictional Kingdom of Balandor and follows the adventures of a boy named Leonard who realizes his role in a drama started thousands of years in the past. Working in the proximity of the palace, Leonard stumbles on a plot to kidnap the enigmatic Princess Cisna. As he helps her escape he also becomes aware of his connection to a transformative power which allows him to take on the ancient shape, and harness the devastating power of the White Knight. Yet there are other elements at work here as well, including the forces of an evil wizard with powers that stretch back to the same ancient times which produced the White Knight. With the help of his friends and the power of the White Knight, these are the forces that Leonard will have to face in his quests.

Gameplay
White Knight Chronicles is a Japanese RPG (JRPG) centered around a turn-based battle system in a local single player story-driven campaign that is supported by online multiplayer functionality. Gameplay questing occurs from a third-person perspective and follows Leonard and up to three other AI companions, which can include the customizable character that players assume in multiplayer mode. Once quest members are assembled, players utilize the strengths of the overall group as a whole, and are able to switch between characters at will. Combat being turn-based, players must be able to cue up and control the actions of each character in quick sequence for each combat scenario faced. The game facilitates this via the Function Palette, located in its Battle Preparation menu, allowing players to prepare in advance a series of commands for each character to carry out. These can involve magic or weapons use and can be merged into combos. Multiple palettes can be saved, making it possible to optimize actions for specific types of enemies, and making for quick changing of commands. As with any RPG, throughout quests players accumulate experience which allows their character to level up, purchase items and abilities and generally grow stronger with an eye towards besting the increasingly challenging creatures, bosses and situations faced.

Online Multiplayer
Along with a compelling single player campaign, White Knight Chronicles also contains an exciting online multiplayer component. Within this, up to four players can engage in more than 50 multiplayer quests, with each player creating their own unique customizable character which can be leveled up in a combined group effort, and take advantage of created items and new skills. Although unique to the online game mode, which is designed for multiplayer action, these quests can also be played alone if players wish. In addition to this functionality available in the online multiplayer mode also includes a variety of ways to interact with the wider White Knight Chronicles community on the PlayStation 3 platform. Included in this is town building through the Georama functionality, which allows players to construct a town to their own specifications that can be populated offline with characters from throughout the single player campaign and then taken online where it serves as a base for quests hosted by players, as well as a persistent online location that other players can visit and buy items your town's population has for sale. The game also offers an online interface known as GeoNet that allows players to communicate with others via blogs, forums, quest logs and voice chat functionality, as well as post snapshots from their journeys using the Crystal Camera in-game tool.

Loved:
- Gun Combat - Fights in Mass Effect 2 have moved from being the weak link of the first game to the strongest part of the sequel. Aiming is based on skill alone instead of generated numbers. Each weapon has a unique feel, the sound effects and feedback are tremendous. Replacing the cool-down system from the first Mass Effect with regular ammo and health regeneration makes for fast pace, visceral combat. Targeting body parts has effects, such as more damage for head-shots, and slowing down targets with leg shots. I found infiltrators impossible to use in ME1 because sniper rifles swayed too much, the damage was low, the cool-down for a single shot was the same time needed for enemy shields to regenerate, and head-shots didn't help. In ME2, picking off distant enemies is extremely satisfying.

- Strategy - Enemies have different health bars for shields, barriers, armor, and health that protect them from certain powers. This forces you to use different guns, ammo, and powers to whittle down their health. It adds a nice strategic element to the combat, and ensures that your main character cannot rambo through every encounter without help from your allies.

- Allies - Your companions are well defined, with decent back-stories, and each has 2 missions to further flesh out their characters. With so many allies, you are bound to find some that you like. Gameplaywise, each only has a few skills that are normally specialized for certain enemies, so it encourages you to use different allies for different missions.

- Dialog - The voice acting is superb. Every character's voice fits well, and the animations and camera angles have been varied to make the dialogs seem more cinematic. Bioware games really shine in this area.

- Graphics - All the technical hiccups of the first game are gone. Textures are always present and sharper than ever. Tech and biotic powers look and feel powerful. The backgrounds are stunning. And the characters are all gorgeous during their closeups.

- Armor customization - You have limited choice for your armor style, but you have full control over each piece (helmet, chest, legs, arms, shoulders), the pattern and color. You no longer need to worry about wanting the nice stat bonuses but looking like a clown wearing pink armor.

- True sequel - So many choices from the first game change the dialog and actions in the sequel. It makes each play-through unique and gives the game so much replay value.

- Mordin - This ally has the best dialog in any game ever. Buy the game just to see what he has to say.

Hated:
- No villain - ME1 benefited from a strong story involving a great villain, Saren. You got to see his cruelty, his power, and most importantly, his motivation. The story was compelling because you were saving the galaxy from his actions. In ME2, there is no central villian. You must save the galaxy from the collectors, but they never speak to you, and you never witness their hostility. In the cities, no one mentions them or seems all that concerned that the world as they know it may end. Your team keeps saying the entire galaxy is threatened, but without visual proof of that, the plot seems hollow.

- Missions - The gameplay is broken down into small chunks that take between 10 to 30 minutes to complete. They occur in areas that you can't return to, and once you meet the objective, the mission immediately ends. This is really nice in terms of pacing, but it's possible to miss items and upgrades. I always have the nagging feeling that I need to search every last corner even though I should be evacuating the exploding space station because I know I won't be able to come back later.

- Lack of weapons - There are only 2 or 3 guns of each type. Each one is significantly different in terms of power, clip size, and rate of fire, so old guns are still viable. However it does get boring using the same gun for 1/2 the game, and another for the rest. A few more options would have been welcome.

- Ally dialog structure - Your conversations with allies follows a strict structure where they have nothing to say to you until you reach another milestone in the main story. They never walk around the ship and never approach you. It's fine in most cases, but gets awkward when one of them proclaims their undying love for you and then finds an excuse not to talk to you for another 10 hours. Even a bit more variety in the reasons why they can't talk to you at the moment would go a long way for believability. When they give the exact same excuse again, it breaks the immersion, and you realize you are playing a game. Another reason why Mordin is so great. He is the only one with dozens of funny excuses for not having the time to chat with you.

Collector's Edition:
- The hardcover art book is gorgeous, and has some insight into ideas and designs that were proposed but rejected.
- The comic is nice, but leaves you wanting more, as it is part of an ongoing series
- The tin can was misleading. I thought everything was housed in the can, but in reality the whole thing comes in a paper box, and the DVD case is made of metal. That said, it is a beautiful tin DVD case.

Overall Mass Effect 2 stands strong as a 3rd person shooter. When combined with solid RPG elements, top calibur voice acting, and memorable characters it becomes an outstanding game from start to finish.

Story

I'm not a hardcore gamer - A few hours on the weekend and an occasional weeknight at best. I've played many games casually and typically find myself playing first-person shooters the majority of the time (COD, Bad Co., Bioshock, etc). I did enjoy Fallout 3 which was more of a RPG than a shooter - logged in over 60 hours. I was initially turned off by Demon's Souls because of the reviews telling casual gamers to beware because of the difficulty... The only reason I picked up DS was the glowing review it got from Gamespot as their pick for "game of the year".

After getting it home and setting up my character, I literally spent the next 4 hours trying to just get through the first level. EXTREMELY frustrating to say the least! Still, after spending on the game I was determined to give it a chance. As stated in other reviews, when you die you lose all your souls (which are currency) and start back at the beginning with all of the same enemies to fight (with the exceptions of bosses and some black phantoms). Where the game tempts you to try, try again is that the "physical" world you just died in does not change. In other words, if you opened a gate which can act as a short cut, activated an elevator, or even hardened lava - it will still be in the same state as when you left it.... These changes may help you along in your progress. It took me approximately 6 hours just to finish level 1 (1-1 for those that have played it).

After killing the boss at the end of level 1 I WAS HOOKED! I upgraded and repaired my equipment as well as my stats and was off to tackle another 40+ hours of greatness. I'm currently at 5-1 (which is roughly 85% complete) and loving it. This is by far the best game I have played to date. I should finish it at about the 50 hour mark (spent some time "soul farming" to help upgrade), and plan on playing it again as a different class when I finish the first play through (a feature called "new game +").

A couple of "words of wisdom" to make it a little easier: the booklet that comes with the game is very basic, so do a web search for a good "Demon's Souls wiki" which will provide much more info on everything from equipment to defeating bosses. There are also some great walkthroughs on youtube that show you different strategies for completed levels/defeating bosses. Without a little research I'd still be stuck on level 1-2 trying to get past those two pesky "blue-eyed" knights at the end of the "dragon" bridge! Also, the online feature is really cool. I've requested the help of a couple "blue phantoms" to help me defeat a boss here or there and the "black phantoms" can be a pain in the neck..... The messages left by other players, "white phantoms" and blood stains all are innovative ways to help you with the game.

In conclusion, this game is frustrating but that's part of what makes it so much fun. If you decide to jump in, don't quit easily. Once you get the hang of it you will see the payoff for your efforts. A fantastic game - I have my fingers crossed for some DLC or Demon's Souls 2!

This game has a Mature Adult rating, and it's not because of the content, but because of the gameplay. The gameplay is too challenging and detailed for teens. I have played the game twice, creating every weapon, achieving Warlock, Lordly Commander classes on more than one character, all the arcana and weapon arts. The game requires deep thinking to analyze how to create effective unions (battle teams). People think the game is random, or just luck, but it is NOT. Every action is completely controllable, but you have to know what you are doing. Too many recent RPGs have been stuck on a formula where you have a single hero who fights aggressively, and with overleveling the game is overpowered. That is NOT the case here.

BR Battle Rank and Arts are separate. Battle Rank is NOT like traditional leveling. Fighting too easy monsters or too many mobs in a mistaken attempt to "level up" will leave your characters with a high battle rank, but without sufficient skills. Players need to focus on challenging monsters and avoid easy ones until late game when anything goes and you are no longer skill building. The game has job classes determined both by weapon type and also by the type of commands you choose. If you want a combat character, choose combat commands, and don't use the mystic arts for that character. In other words, you must plan what you are doing. Anybody who hopes to barrel their way through the story will not make it.

I have helped many gamers on gamefaqs with this game, and I suggest using the FAQs there and the forum for questions, as the strategy guide is horrible and lacks crucial information. I also highly recommend using the lastremnant wikia on the internet.

The best players I have seen with this game are ADULT players with 10-20 years of RPG game experience, aged 20 and older. This game was a Game of the Year for me in 2008 and I never tire of watching other players on ustream playing this game. I repeat, it's not for the kiddies. But if you are an adult RPG player who has also some experience with strategy RPGs, you will do great with this and love it. Impatient teens and other reviewers on this site who couldn't figure out the game clearly do not have what it takes to play this, a vast RPG experience, high intelligence, and a love for detailed strategy.

There is no way to play the same game twice with the sheer number of characters that you can hire for your teams. The bosses and download content are very difficult battles, but once you learn what you are doing, you will find this satisfying. I hope that my comments here will recommend the game to other adults looking for a game with adult characters, not just kiddie characters, and also to people with the patience to learn the system in the game. It is NOT random and takes time to analyze.

This game is meant for HDTVs and will be difficult to see on an older analog TV. You will be disappointed in the graphics and menus unless you have an HDTV which will make the game look so amazing you will have your breath taken away. There are massive dragons to fight that are incredible to watch, and many areas in the world to explore. Have fun fellow adults, this one is for us!

The Story Unfolds

Rush Sykes and his sister Irina are children of scientists researching the esoteric Remnants. One day, Irina is kidnapped right before Rush's eyes. Determined to rescue his sister, Rush joins forces with David Nassau, the marquis of a small city-state called Athlum. Together they are determined to pursue the criminals and save Irina from her strange captors.

Meanwhile, the world is thrust into confusion as ruling powers bicker over dividing the Remnants' powers. Soon a mysterious man appears calling himself the Conqueror. His presences escalates tensions as everyone eagerly attempts to answer the question: Into whose hands will the power of the Remnants fall? Before he knows it, Rush becomes wrapped up in this international power struggle and realizes that he is somehow connected to the enigmatic Conqueror.

Allies and Enemies
Before her kidnapping, Rush Sykes lived a peaceful life with his 14-year-old sister, Irina Sykes. Irina is a cheerful, resilient girl who stays upbeat even during the toughest of times. Some mysterious power seems to rest within here, but she herself has no understanding of what it is or what it can do. David Nassau, the 19-year-old who rules over the state of Athlum, spends his days working towards better his homeland. Although he decides to join Rush on his quest to rescue Irina, his motives are his own. Emma Honeywell, the matriarch of the Honeywells clan, Plagus, Blocter, and Torgal round out the allies.

The man known only as the Conqueror and his minions are eager to seize the Remnants throughout the lands. His origin is shrouded in mystery, but it appears that something strange and elusive connects this villain to Rush. Enamored with the Conqueror, Roeas has declared her eternal allegiance to him and acts as the ambassador of the Conqueror's Army. Although beautiful in form and voice, Roeas is sadistic and menacing on the battlefield. Originating from a large-bodied species with pronounced fighting abilities, Castanea is Roeas right-hand-man. He rarely speaks or expresses himself, so it is difficult to decipher his thoughts -- although Roeas seems to understand him easily. In addition, the strongest fighters in the Conqueror's army are referred to as The Seven. The Seven lead their own troops and report to Roeas and Castanea.

Combat Systems: Morale, Battle Unions, and Deadlock
Battles are fought between multiple friendly and enemy unions -- groups of up to five characters who fight together. Players give commands to unions as a whole, who then carry out the actions. Orders in battle are given in a command-select style that is familiar to most role playing gamers. However, The Last Remnant commands are not delivered with standard terms, such as "Item" or "Magic." Instead, players control unions with specialized commands, such as "Slam 'em with status ailments!" or "Do area attacks from afar!" Available commands change depending on the current battle situation or the distance and positions of friendly and hostile unions.

The Last Remnant adds a Morale component to the gameplay. Players can check current morale via the gauge across the top of the screen. The higher the morale, the more damage is dealt and less damage is taken by friendly unions, and vice-versa. When friendly and enemy unions go toe-to-toe and engage in melee combat, they enter a state called Deadlock. Once in Deadlock, the two unions must fight each other until one union has been completely destroyed.

Enemy monsters roam the land where they can be avoided or engaged at will. When battle is initiated, the scene changes to a specialized battle map where friend and foe can fight it out. Horizontal lined icons labeled A, B, C, etc. represent the on-field battle unions. Players choose which hostile union they wish to attack on this screen. The Last Remnant offers a wide variety of commands that focus on dealing damage or executing defensive maneuvers. Knowing which commands are most suitable for each situation is the key to winning battles.

It's not perfect, but for a linear action game, Bayonetta is like an expertly-cut diamond that is so dazzling at times, it's almost painful to look at. Its ridiculous story is just a stage for the wonderfully realized characters to act on. The overt sex and violence is pure camp, never taking itself seriously. Strip away the overwhelming amount of tongue-in-cheek cutscenes, and you're left with a linear action game that shuttles you from scripted battle to scripted battle, where the goal is to kill enemies with combo attacks for points. It's accessible enough for button mashers to progress at a steady pace, yet offers a challenge of finesse for skilled players to achieve higher grades.

The public is gripped with fear as the police seem powerless to stop the carnage, and another potential victim — Shaun Mars — has gone missing. Now four characters, each following their own leads and with their own motives, must take part in a desperate attempt to prevent the killer from taking yet another life.

Gameplay
Heavy Rain is a single player, action/adventure game with a particularly strong emphasis on a player-influenced storyline as a means of facilitating the evolution of action towards one of many possible conclusions. The game features four playable characters: a father, a photographer, a FBI agent with a special skill set and a retired cop turned private detective. Each have different paths, means and motives to ending the reign of terror that the Origami Killer has imposed on their city. As players follow the path laid before their character of choice, using their controller they are able to explore, interact with and view their surroundings in a variety of ways using their left and right sticks. At crucial times players are given a series of choices relating to how to proceed in various situations, with the outcome of these choices revealing both benefits and consequences. Benefits can be important to progressing through the game, while possible consequences can in turn pose a very real danger to characters, including death. But unlike other games, and because Heavy Rain features four playable characters that exist independently of each other, yet simultaneously within the same the story arc, this does not end the game. Players are instead able to play as one of the other available characters, with appropriate changes to possible outcomes due to the absence of the deceased character(s).
